KLAMATH FALLS, ORE. - Police have uncovered a bizarre Valentine's Day suicide pact with ties to the Northwest.
Police say 32 people agreed to commit suicide on Valentine's day. They made the pact in an internet chat room.
Investigators tell KOMO 4 News the suicide pact was orchestrated out of a home in Southern Oregon.
The man who allegedly convinced them to kill themselves is now in police custody. Gerald Krien, 26, of Klamath Falls is charged with solicitation to commit murder.
Investigators learned of the cyber suicide pact on Tuesday from a tipster.
That tipster told detectives he was going to commit suicide, with Krien, until he realized that children were involved.
"Really the most important thing to us is there is a woman who indicated she was going take her children when she did it," said Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger. "We are scrambling, we are addressing this with multiple resources now."
Sheriff Evinger told us he's relying on electronic records and internet forensics to help track down those children, that's also how they found Krien.
Deputies arrested Krien Wednesday and seized his computer during a search of his house that resulted from a tip. He was being held without bail at the Klamath County Jail pending a grand jury review of the case expected next week.
